What is Wire EDM?

Electrical Discharge Machining (EDM) is a precision engineering process which cuts metal into your desired shape using electrical sparks. For this reason, it is sometimes also referred to as spark machining, or wire erosion services. As sparks occur between two electrodes, the intensity of the electric field removes material, ultimately allowing the shape to be created and detached from the metal.

 

What are the Advantages of Wire EDM?

Wire erosion is a no contact no force process; this means it is very suited for smaller, more delicate workpieces which could be damaged by conventional cutting tools. Complex shapes and very fine holes can be formed, giving a high-quality surface finish to follow. Wire EDM is also an automated process, meaning the risk of damage to your workpiece is minimised.
